When the idea of becoming a role model was brought to my attention, I didn’t want it. I thought that all that I had accomplished was enough:
- Pulling myself out of the low-income area of Broward and then getting to travel the world
- Earning all kinds of distinguished awards for athletics and civic duties
- Becoming one of the premier safeties in the national football league and being selected to All-Star Teams
- Entering the College Hall of Fame
Then it occurred to me that I felt a sense of responsibility – not only to myself but too many others. I’ve always felt that knowledge is the key to all of your success. I’m constantly reminded of what Robert Frost once said “I’ve come to the fork in the road of life and I took the one less traveled, and it has made all the difference.”
For I’m constantly faced with those decisions. Our children are the future for us and we must equip them with fortitude to stand up and make an educated, strong decision.
I’ve pledged to make sure that our children especially those with special needs from the disadvantaged areas get the knowledge and skills, to become productive citizens.
Please enjoy the web site and hopefully, you will want to join in the mission.
